New
Nothing Compares
Practicality. Versatility. Spaciousness. Safety. Performance. You can justify your decision all you like. But your ultimate reason for owning the all new Commodore Sportwagon – and all the reason you need – is that you want one. And have done from the moment you laid eyes on it.
Who can blame you? Turning practical into practi-cool, there has never been a Holden wagon like it. Never one so eye-catchingly sleek and refined. So purposeful and capable looking. So Australian, yet so obviously brimming with world-class automotive sophistication.
But the new Sportwagon has more than looks going for it. The five-adult cabin is large, luxurious and packed with the latest in driving and entertainment technology. The expandable cargo area is meticulously designed to ensure easy and ergonomic access in even the tightest spaces. And a full complement of advanced safety systems – including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and six airbags – is standard across the range.
Most important of all, the Sportwagon drives like a Holden should. Powered by your choice of V6 or V8 engine, and featuring the same linear control suspension as the 2006 Wheels Car of the Year winning VE Commodore sedan range, it handles with the ease and agility of a vehicle far smaller.
For families on the go. For business on the move. For the sheer pleasure of an endlessly satisfying journey to a destination only you know. Nothing compares with the all new Commodore Sportwagon.
Once seen, never forgotten
Your eyes see a wagon. Your mind sees a sports car. Your imagination already has you behind the wheel. At a stroke, Holden design engineers have transformed the traditional wagon into an aerodynamic object of desire.
Fluid. Seamless. Peerless. The Sportwagon’s streamlined body form sweeps from the tip of its sculpted nose, to the tail of the tapered roof that so cleverly disguises the spacious load area within.
Strikingly sleek and stylish, the vehicle’s exquisite proportions are further accentuated by its next generation Commodore design DNA. The muscular wheel arches, the signature fender vents, the motorsport-inspired sloping stance – it’s all there to admire, and be admired.
Is it the most stunning wagon to ever grace Australian roads? The answer is right in front of you. Once seen, never forgotten, the new Holden Sportwagon is an idea whose time has come.
Always accommodating
Because your needs can change from one minute to the next, the always accommodating Sportwagon adapts just as quickly.
Camping trip for two? The 60/40 split rear seats fold flush to give you a continuous storage area that is almost 2 metres long and has a 2000 litre cargo capacity. Family outing? Upright, the rear seats have room and comfort to spare for three adults. Golfing weekend with a couple of mates? Fold down one of the rear seats, stow your gear and go!
But it’s not just size and flexibility that wins the space race for Sportwagon. To help reduce back strain, the cargo floor is elevated and the clever cargo blind can be raised and lowered while fully extended. Load hooks recessed into the floor and side walls combine with the four position cargo net* to ensure secure carrying and easy access. And a load area side lamp lights your way when the sun is down or the cargo blind is extended.
Ergonomics also come to the fore up front. The driving position offers a commanding view of the road. Instrumentation is clear, concise and conveys all essential information at a glance. While centre console controls come to hand effortlessly and operate intuitively.
You’ll also take comfort in knowing Sportwagon’s seats are generously bolstered, with rear passengers enjoying the added benefit of enhanced side support. And that every model across the range is equipped with a long list of standard features, including air-conditioning, power windows and a CD audio system. Calais V-Series with Light Urban leather appointed seats always accommodating * The four position cargo net is standard on Calais and Calais V-Series, and available as an accessory on all other models
Storage
It’s not just how much you can store in the new Holden Sportwagon that will impress, but how easily you store it. Thinking outside and inside the box, Holden engineers have created a superbly functional and ergonomic cargo space that’s easier for you to access from both within and out of the vehicle.
So throughout its development phase, they virtually crash tested the Commodore repeatedly, using advanced computer modelling, for six years. Crashed it with cars, trucks, walls and poles. From the front, the rear, the side and on angles. Not with just one crash test dummy, but with many, representing virtually every size and shape of driver and passenger possible.
The Commodore was also road tested more than any other car in Holden’s history. Not only on test tracks, highways and city streets, but gravel tracks in the crippling heat of the Australian outback, and the icy roads of Sweden and New Zealand in winter.
The end result – of these, and the countless other computer modelled, prototype and development car tests – is not just a happy engineering and design department, it’s a vehicle you can rely on to go – and keep going. In every respect, in every situation.
Anything less, and it wouldn’t be a Commodore.
Performance
SIDI
First it was Active Fuel Management. Now to the Sportwagon range of Ecoline alternative fuel and fuel-saving technology comes another first for Holden – the Spark Ignition Direct Injection V6 petrol engine.
Available in 3.0 and 3.6 litre variants, the all-new SIDI Direct Injection V6 is one of the most technically advanced locally manufactured 6-cylinder engines on Australian roads – and one no other local 6-cylinder manufacturer can match for fuel economy. For the first time, you can enjoy the spaciousness, comfort and practicality of a true family-sized car while experiencing petrol bills normally seen on some smaller cars.
The Sportwagon powertrain line up also includes the iconic 6.0 litre Gen IV V8 with Active Fuel Management†. Switching automatically from eight to four cylinder operation during certain driving conditions, you get full V8 performance when it’s needed, and improved fuel economy when it’s not.
Alloytec V6
Power to spare, from one of the most sophisticated and advanced production engines ever manufactured in Australia. That’s what you can look forward to when you turn the key and experience the exhilarating performance of an Alloytec V6 engine.
A proven world-class engine in every respect, it’s available in two 3.6 litre variants:
- Alloytec V6 – standard on Omega and Berlina 175kW# of power at 6500rpm 325Nm# of torque at 2400rpm
- High Output Alloytec V6 – standard on SV6, Calais and Calais V-Series 195kW# of power at 6500rpm 340Nm# of torque at 2600rpm

Generation 4 Alloy V8
For supreme power there’s only one choice: the 6.0 litre Generation 4 Alloy V8.
Standard on the Sportwagon SS and SS V-Series. Optional on the range-topping Calais V-Series. Developing a brutal 270kW*# of power and 530Nm* of torque with manual transmission, and 260kW*#/517Nm* with auto, the legendary Gen 4 delivers exceptional performance and towing capabilities. Its features include:
- Active Fuel Management† (AFM), which can seamlessly shut down four cylinders according to engine load and acceleration requirements, thus reducing petrol usage.
- Aluminium alloy construction, creating a lightweight engine for a smoother ride.
- Less weight in the front end, allowing more precise steering response, which translates into more agile handling.
- A one-piece induction system made from composite materials, for smooth airflow and superior breathing.

Transmissions
4-speed automatic transmission
Featuring a new input speed sensor to match engine revs to gear changes, Sportwagon’s 4-speed automatic transmission ensures refined, smooth and consistent gearshifts for Omega and Berlina drivers.
5-speed automatic transmission with Active Select
Teamed with the High Output Alloytec V6 engine on the SV6, Calais and Calais V-Series, the 5-speed automatic transmission with Active Select delivers smooth, crisp – almost seamless – gearshifts.
6-speed manual transmission
Designed with a super smooth short throw for more spirited driving, the 6-speed manual transmission has the ideal first gear launch feel and lower cruising revs in sixth. Standard on the SS and SS V-Series, it’s the obvious choice for those who prefer a ‘hands-on’ approach.
6-speed automatic transmission with Active Select
Paired perfectly to the Generation 4 Alloy V8 engine on Sportwagon SS, SS V-Series and Calais V-Series, the optional 6-speed automatic transmission has a truly world class shift feel and delivers improved acceleration. Active Select gives you the added advantage of one touch switching between automatic or manual gear shifting.
Safety
Safety in numbers, and large numbers at that. Sportwagon’s advanced new multi-layered driver defence system surrounds you – literally – with state-of-the-art active and passive safety features. The former to help prevent collisions; the latter to help prevent injury in the event of a collision.
Active safety
Up to 200 times a second – that’s how often the Sportwagon’s active safety systems monitor on-road dynamics. Everything from the vehicle’s speed, lateral acceleration and rotation, to the steering wheel angle and brake force you apply.
When normal tolerances are exceeded, one or more of the following systems initiate integrated – non-intrusive – counter measures to help ensure you retain maximum control of the vehicle.
Passive safety
A collision is a contest between impact energy and your vehicle’s safety features. You want everything possible on your side.
That’s why the Sportwagon features Holden’s Adaptive Occupant Restraint System – which includes dual-stage front airbags, side and curtain airbags – as well as multiple load paths to help channel impact energies and a safety cell reinforced with ultra high strength steel.
Most impressive of all, in a frontal crash, the Sportwagon can automatically initiate and co-ordinate all on-board passive safety measures in an incredible 90 milliseconds (ms) – about the time it takes to snap your fingers.
Technology
Innovation comes in all shapes and sizes in the Sportwagon. From the futuristic component synchronisation and optional on-board telematics, to the sublime convenience of integrated Bluetooth® mobile phone connectivity. Technology, not for technology’s sake, but for you – the driver. To help protect you and your investment. Make it easier for you to get from your journey’s start to end. And to create a driving experience richer and more rewarding than ever before. This is not only an incredibly smart vehicle, it’s an extremely smart choice of vehicle.
